You often hear of fate and how couples are meant to be together. And Christine and Jimmy’s story transcends most of the love stories you’ve probably heard.
{Scroll down a bit further past the photos to see their full story! Their wedding feature was recently printed in Inside Weddings Magazine!}
Their grandfathers met over 35 years ago. Both small business owners in the same town, they started doing business together. Christine’s grandfather started buying pipe and fittings for jewelry store steam cleaners from Porter Pipe. Over the years, the friendship carried over to the next generation and the groom’s father and uncle both became frequent patrons of Razny Jewelers. The bride’s father joked and asked Jimmy’s uncle, “Are there any single Porter boys I could set up with Christine?
After leaving the store, Jimmy’s uncle told him that Christine was newly single. This was just a few days before Valentine’s Day, so Jimmy decided to send a Valentine’s Day bouquet of flowers to her at work. Little did Christine know, Jimmy had seen her in the jewelry store a few years back and always had a little crush on her.
Shortly after receiving the bouquet, Christine and Jimmy went out on their first date, and quickly fell in love with each other. When Jimmy knew he wanted to marry Christine, just 6 months later, he went out to dinner with Christine’s father to ask for her hand. Needless to say, it was a big deal to be able to give Stan’s only daughter, the one piece of jewelry that he could never give to her, an engagement ring! Shortly after that, Jimmy and Stan (the bride’s father) started working on the engagement ring, and Jimmy could be found sneaking in and out of the back door of the jewelry store, having secret meetings with Stan to find the perfect diamond.
Jimmy knew when and where he wanted to propose, so it was a race to get the ring finished in time before Christine left for Switzerland on a work trip to the Rolex factory. Two days after dropping Christine off at the airport, Jimmy jumped on a plane and followed her out to Geneva, Switzerland where he would surprise her and ask her to marry him. Jimmy coordinated the engagement with one of Christine’s co-workers, who was also in Switzerland with Christine for Rolex training. Jimmy had asked Sally to get Christine in front of the famous St. Pierre Cathedral where he would be waiting on the steps. As Sally and Christine approached the steps of the cathedral, Christine noticed “a hot guy who kind of looked like my boyfriend” only to come to the realization that it was her boyfriend, and she was about to experience one of the happiest moments of her life. When Christine walked up to the top step, Jimmy dropped to one knee and asked Christine the question that she’s dreamed about her whole life (being a girl who grew up in the bridal industry, helping future fiancés design that perfect ring).
Christine loves helping create love stories, and loves getting pictures from her clients of their perfect proposal, but this time it was her turn! The couple celebrated their engagement in Switzerland for the next few days, and soon after they got home began planning their big day. They wanted this day to be very special and wanted to make sure all of their closest family and friends would be there to celebrate their love together.
Needless to say, their wedding was romantic and filled with gorgeous detail (and jewels!!). And Jimmy even performed “Yellow” by Cold Play for his bride during the reception. Truly an epic fairytale wedding.
Congratulations Christine and Jimmy!
