Their first conversation was focused on David Bowie. Michael had a tough time narrowing down his favorite song when first asked. Three years later on Nicole’s birthday, Michael reveals that he has figured it out. He begins reciting the lyrics, “I, I will be king.” Immediately, Nicole recognized this line from the song “Heroes” as Michael walked over to her side of the table while singing the lyrics “And you, you will be queen.” Michael gets on one knee and opens a box to reveal a stunning oval diamond. “Of course,” she exclaims as everyone in the restaurant cheered. Needless to say, it was not how she expected her birthday dinner to unfold.
From there, there was no doubt that the wedding would be held at The Drake Hotel, where her mother and father were married 32 years ago. “Since I was a little girl, I’ve always dreamed of walking down the same aisle.” And to no surprise, their first dance was choreographed to none other than David Bowie’s “Heroes.”
