The moment when a couple sees each other for the first time before the ceremony is a special one to capture. However, the father-daughter first look deserves equal prioritization. Dad is one of the first to see the bride before she walks down the aisle. So why not capture the moment with photo and video?
Here are three easy tips to getting great photo and video of the father-daughter first look.
1.) Set Aside Time
We recommend allocating about 15 minutes for the first look with Dad (an extra five minutes or so if you need a quick eye touch up). If time permits, it is best for Dad to be dressed in his formal attire for your wedding video and photos. Also, if you want any other family members present (ex: Mom) consider when they are scheduled for hair / makeup to ensure that they will be ready too.
2.) Choose an Ideal Setting
Natural light is always a photographer’s friend. A beautiful hotel suite or spacious well-lit room near where the bride is getting ready are ideal. More space allows your wedding photographer and wedding videographer to get great angles of the moment. Additionally, it is helpful to keep the room tidy and if possible, keep the number of people in the room to a minimum. A large audience may impact the purity of the response.
3.) Consider Quick Formal Portraits
As wedding photographers , we are optimizing the moments we have for portraits. If the schedule allows us to squeeze in a couple quick semi-formal photos with immediate family after the first look moment, we like to take advantage of this time ( in case we are limited on time before or after the ceremony).
